A few rapid fire questions with SASH
Where do you come from and what makes your place so special for you?
I’m originally from Belarus and currently living in Los Angeles, CA. There are many good things about LA, my most favourite things are the weather and the variety of experiences and people that you are exposed to. There is something for anyone.
How do you see the electronic music scene evolve in and around the city?
LA electronic scene is good. 6AM group, in particular, is pushing the boundaries, bringing amazing techno artists from Europe and elsewhere that bring uncompromising sound. There is also a variety of deep house events. I appreciate that aesthetic of venues and events is improving. Good ambience creates good vibes.
What excites you the most as being a DJ?
I haven’t played much out in venues, but I regularly play for friends at various events that we organize. I like the challenge to play for different people, tailoring to their taste, at the same time trying to stay aligned with my personal preferences and style. Seeing people react, dance and appreciate music is priceless. Sometimes people feel obligated to compliment you after you’re done, but the best compliment is done on the dance floor and words are not needed.
Where does your passion for electronic music come from?
It started in a living room in San Francisco, when my friends from New York just put some deep house mix on a background. I felt in love instantly with the journey that an hour mix can create. Passion was solidified at Burning Man, another festival during sunrise sets, I find those the most emotional.
How has your music been influenced by other artists, musicians, or life in general?
It is constantly influenced by other DJs. I feel like my style and passion pivots once or twice a year after some event, where experience new emotions, new vibe. It happened at Burning Man originally, then in Tulum, then in Detroit during Movement. I’ve been going deeper and darker for a while and now I’m experimenting with lighter and groovier tracks. I think it also reflects my life journey, which has been pretty emotional in the last year with ups and downs.
What can we expect from the mix you made us?
I’d love to say that it is a storytelling mix. Story of someone on a quest to find meaning in life, asking questions, going deep to find answers, working with shamans, meeting people that change one’s life, finding love and fun in life. This is a deep atmospheric mix with a more energetic finish.
What’s your favourite song to date?
That is a hard question. I would say Madonna – Frozen (Hvitling Remix). Even though this is not the style that I’m playing lately this track collected most compliments, screams and positive emotions by far.
Thank you!
