Where are you from and what do you find inspirational about where you’re living?
I’m from Hawaii originally but have been living in New York since I was young. I find both places inspirational. The beauty of the ocean, plant life, and the natural world is extremely evident out in Hawai’i. However, New York City has its own beauty–the diversity of so many different types of people, how those people come together to support each other and fight for what’s right, different cultures mixing and blending. Both places inspire me to search for sounds that are unique, different, and beautiful.
Where does your passion for electronic music come from?
I really don’t know. It just sorta grew on me between 2010 and 2014. I realized how fun it was to dance. We spend every waking moment so concerned with what our bodies are doing. Where am I going. Am I comfortable. Who is around me. What clothes am I wearing. Oh, I should lift some weights. Oh, I should run or stretch or sit still. But when you get out to a dance party and let all of that go and just move your body to the music, it’s an amazing release for everyone.
How has your music been influenced by other artists, musicians, or life in general?
Tough question to answer! There are certainly a few artists who constantly inspire me to do this for my own ears and the love of the music first and foremost. There are others who inspire me to lift up other artists using my platform, no matter how medium-sized that platform may be. My friends and I use our collective Standard Deviation (instagram.com/the.standard.deviation) to do just that.
What excites you the most as a DJ/producer?
The incredible variety electronic music offers is a fantastic reality. I feel like I’ll never get bored. I hope I never do.
What can we expect from the mix you made us?
A stroll through a few different moods and vibes, with percussive beats and engaging textures throughout, maybe some songs you haven’t heard before, hopefully, an hour of music that gets your head bopping and your body moving.
Thank you.
