The organizers of Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) have declared this year’s event a huge success. The world’s biggest club festival and business platform for electronic music attracted a record number of 365,000 visitors and 5,500 professionals from the music world to make the 20th edition of the five-day event the biggest one yet.
As usual, thousands of dance music fans and music industry professionals flocked to Amsterdam to experience global electronic music culture in all its aspects. The ADE Conference noted another sold out edition, the music culture program ADE Playground showcased electronic music in art, film, gear installations and ADE Festival kept 180,000 people dancing at the same time on the busiest night on Saturday.
485 speakers, 2289 artists
Among the many speakers at ADE Conference and ADE Playground were Dave Smith (Grammy-winning Synth designer, US), Greg Consiglio (President & CEO, Beatport, US), Hardwell (NL), Jeff Mills (US), Juan Atkins (US), KiNK (BG), Kölsch (DK), B.Traits (CA), Kyle Hopkins (head of music supervision, Microsoft, US), Machinedrum (US), Matt Black (Ninjatune, GB), Rob Stone (The FADER/Cornerstone, US), Robert Hood (US), Roger Linn (LinnStruments, US), Sean Wilder (Immersive, GB), Skrillex (US), The Black Madonna (US) and many others. At ADE Festival emerging talents, current superstar acts and electronic music pioneers were among the 2,289 performing artists from all over the world who showcased the latest musical trends.

Leading the way
Richard Zijlma, director of ADE, sees the Amsterdam dance platform leading the international scene for the next twenty years. “Over the last twenty years we have widened the scope of ADE step-by-step and we want to keep developing. This year, for example, we had the first ADE Beats, a hip-hop program, and ADE Sound Lab about the technological evolution of sound. We will always look for ways to keep things fresh and ways to move forward and add to the festival.”

Our highlights
With so many events going on during the ADE week it was hard to make choices. But we made it through the week, attending the ADE Dance & Brands conference and 4 festival events.
We met several great people like Elad Ohana from Soulfeed & Take Away Music, Roy Rosenfeld, Tom Smeyers (SneakerFreaks Music), Eddie Wagner (EWAgneraudio), Gui Boratto, Tom Howell, Veronica (Crowdmix) and many more in bars and venues. Such a big event with so many people to meet.
The highlights we like to mention are
- Howling at the beautiful Paradiso. Playing this phenomenal Nirvana cover live.
- Lost and Found label showcase with a superb Guy J, Guy Mantzur & Sarah Z @ Recycle Lounge Gallery Club. Have a look at some of the pictures!
- We were invited to the private networking event Crowdmix had orginised at the dazzling SupperClub Amsterdam. This venue definitely is one of the most exquisite clubs we have been to so far. If you get a chance to visit Supperclub Amsterdam, don’t think twice.
Crowdmix took care of all the smallest details and a grand line-up with Patrick Topping b2b Richy Ahmed, Eats Everything, Eton Messy, Faithless and more.
- Pleinvrees, always in for a high level quality event also had a fantastic line-up. Togheter with Straf Werk they planned a striking night with Suol & D.O.C.. Following artists were on the roster: Fritz Kalkbrenner, Till Von Sein, Illesnoise and more on the Suol stage. A magnificent Gui Boratto live, Niconé b2b Gunjah,Marc Romboy and more on the D.O.C. stage.
- Then there was DGTL presents KOMPAKT on Friday. Only one minor issue here: overcrowed. Music-wise the line-up was splendid. Also 2 stages here. Stage 1: Patrice Baümel, Kölsch live, Michael Mayer, Maceo Plex. On Stage 2 there were Barnt, Fango, Weval live, Coma live, Hunter/Game live.
We had a enormous night out and highly enjoyed the set of Michael Mayer which proved once again he is one of our most favorite dj/producer.Michael Mayer tearing down the roof at Kompakt Records night at DGTL
