Sable Sheep Constitution EP
Sable Sheep is the relatively new musical incarnation of a German producer with years of experience. Just a few years ago he released his inaugural track, ‘Painting My Fur’, which flew up the Resident Advisor and Beatport charts.
With a side project singing in a metal band, Sable Sheep is a rare thing in the electronic music world in that his influences still lay with metal music like Slipknot, Emmure and Bury Your Dead. His heavy percussive house pays tribute to the likes of these bands.
In a mere two years the German newcomer has played major events including Barcelona’s Sonar festival and Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) in the Netherlands. You can find his work on the catalogues of Moon Harbour, Be As One, Defected and now the latter’s sub-imprint DFTD with this release, ‘Constitution EP’.
The title track is an ethousiastic demonstration by layering a groovy hook, soulful lyrics and looped wailing vocals. Next up is ‘Fool’s Patron’, a dark rhythmic percussive monster and exemplary of the producer’s knack for crafting high-energy techy rollers. ‘Crop-eared’ is a gloomy number pulsing with a diverse range of melancholic synths and floating keys to make for a hypnotising number packed with vigorous thudding kicks. Last in this four track release is ‘Redemption’, holding uncanny similarities to the man’s metal routes.
