Your remix for Olivan’s “A Hundred Years EP” on Bunte Kuh has just been released. Can you share some insights into how you approached this remix? What elements of the original track did you want to highlight or transform?
The first time I heard the remix, I wasn’t sure if I’d do one. I already loved the original so much. Sometimes, a remix isn’t even needed. But after a few listens, I thought of making the vocals sound robotic and adding elements that would show how the beloved tree was destroyed. The story behind the track gives it an extra boost. And as an environmentalist and vegan for many years, I’m happy to be able to contribute to this project.
How do you feel the sound of “A Hundred Years” aligns with your musical style? Did you experiment with any new techniques or sounds specifically for this remix?
For this remix, I went all out experimenting with vocoders to get that robotic vocal sound and make it fit my style.
You have upcoming shows in Tulum and New York, among other places. These are iconic locations with unique energy. How do you adapt your sets to such contrasting places, and do you find these environments influence your music selection?
Performing is like a dance with the venue. Each place is unique, and it shapes the performance. I always try to arrive early and soak in the energy of the space.
Can you tell us more about your relationship with the label Bunte Kuh? How does their vision resonate with your work as a producer and DJ?
Bunte Kuh is a label that has a clear vision and sound, but it’s also open to new ideas and sounds. I think Benjamin can be proud of what the label has become over the years.
With such a diverse audience in places like Tulum, Mexico City and New York, what emotions or experiences do you aim to create for your listeners during your sets?
Curiosity and Unity.
Your productions often carry a distinct, almost storytelling quality. What narratives or moods are you currently drawn to when creating music?
I’m more into creating something I’d enjoy playing or missing in my sets rather than following trends. It’s important to me that I like my productions… and above all is to be not afraid of new tools or techniques.
Electronic music is constantly evolving. How do you keep your sound fresh and distinct while staying true to your roots?
Through exploration in sound.
Looking ahead, are there any new projects or upcoming releases that we can look forward to?
The past year has been an absolute blast! I’ve been hosting showcases all over the world with my label, Sounds Of Khemit, and it’s been incredibly rewarding. I’m super excited about the upcoming releases on SoK. On the music front, I recently signed a few tracks to two amazing labels, and I can’t wait to share the news with you all soon!
Finally, what does success in music mean to you, both on a personal and creative level?
Happiness.
