Following their unforgettable performances at Purified events in New York and Prague, Italian duo Moonwalk makes their momentous label debut with their two-track “Rapture” EP.
Embarking on a sonic voyage, the title track encapsulates the essence of their live shows across its 7-minute duration. Evolving across a dark rumbling bassline, the duo flaunts their musical finesse, devising an otherworldly soundscape with cosmic synths and distorted vocals. Diving into “When you’re gone”, Moonwalk’s brooding B-side is a slow-burning creation, which allows the listener to get lost in a vast atmosphere before taking control with entrancing melodies and celestial sounds.
Delving deep into the Neapolitan scene in their formative years, Moonwalk has become renowned for its outstanding blend of melodic techno. Cutting their teeth in their hometown’s underground clubs, Dario and Mauro began channelling their dancefloor moments into their early releases. Making their Purified Records debut, Moonwalk continues to leave their indelible mark with their out of this world creations.

Hey Dario, Mauro, How are things these days?
Now is better than before, we start to see the lights. 🙂
We have more time to spend with our family and enjoy what we like the most, producing music.
What’s the highlight for you in the past year?
For sure not the best year of our career, but our last show in New York with Mind Matter was super. We played alongside Radio Slave, Woo York, Aether and Kevin De Vries for an unforgettable night.
Congratulations on your ‘Rapture’ release. It’s your debut on Nora En Pure’s label Purified records. Tell us why Purified. With so many great record labels out there, how do you pick the one that fits your needs?
We’ve been following Nora for a few years and we had the chance to get to know her and to play with her. Since Purified was born, we wanted to collaborate with it right away. So we created our Rapture EP for the label.
Moonwalk’s Rapture is out on Beatport.
How do you guys live up to a release? Is it still exciting after so much great music from you out there already?
We are always excited. Every single track has a different impact on us and hopefully to the people. Our aim is to move people’s feelings.
What’s next after this release? Playing real/online events or more releases?
We’ve some new release although we can’t talk about yet! We have few events on hold, but everything is stand by due Covid. Releases will be shared during our next live streaming’s event in the next weeks.
Any advice on maintaining a successful working relationship in a crazy space like dance music?
This environment is quite challenging everyday and the key is to be humble but always stubborn as well. Don’t give up at the first obstacle and most importantly have fun.
For most artists, originality is first preceded by a phase of learning and, often, emulating others. What was this like for you? How would you describe your own development as an artist and the transition towards your own voice?
Our learning phase was long and full of inspiration and influences. We looked into different genres and to different DJ sounds. It was hard to fit in one style and after many years we feel very comfortable with the sound that today is ours.
Collaborations can take on many forms. What role do they play in your approach and what are your preferred ways of engaging with other creatives through, for example, file sharing, jamming or just talking about ideas?
We are in contact with some colleagues, some collaborations should come out shortly. Often exchange ideas on some projects or send promos to get feedbacks.
How do music and other aspects of your life feed back into each other – do you separate them or instead try to make them blend seamlessly?
We could say that yes we keep the two things separate, but it’s impossible. Even when you finish working in the studio or when you come back from a tour you never stop thinking of a track you are working on. Music never ends playing in your mind.
What is your absolute favourite track of the moment?
D: Chromatics – Shadow (Maceo Plex remix)
M: Monolink – The Prey (Mind Against Remix)
What’s the last thing you saw that made you smile?
D: 7 months ago my daughter was born and she makes me smile every day.
M: In this period I’m making a lot of music and this is the thing that make me happy.
Do you have bad habits you can’t get rid of?
D: I’ve tried many times to quit smoking weed, but the worst is that I cannot stop eating ice cream!
M: Going to sleep late 🙂
Thank you!
