At the start of this year we’ve announced a great collaboration with Italy’s up-and-coming underground techno producer & dj, Monophaze. He will be taking care of a monthly in-house mix for us. We gave him carte blanche, so it will be a complete surprise each month. But knowing him, it will be a mix filled with the finest techno cuts released each month. In case you’ve missed it, his mix for January is out on Soundcloud.
The Florence-based talent is about to release a first EP on the Canadian techno imprint UNT records. His ‘Beyond home’ EP is a two-track EP with one original mix and an edit by label boss John Norman himself. Knowing John for his exquisite taste in techno music, he did a great job signing Monophaze with this outstanding release.
The original mix of ‘Beyond Home’ is a rolling, tracky groove teeming with clicking percussion and a chopped up vocal sample. A forward driving stomper, that builds increasingly throughout the track. This is a track that can really set the pace of a set.
John’s edit immediately grabs you by the throat. No time to breath with the driving rolling beat right from the start. This one has big-room ambitions as its solid kicks push this track along. Known for dropping a breakdown to almost nothingness, allowing for a slight break in your set building it back up and allowing you to take your mix to the next chapter, John has mentioned in the past that ‘this is done on purpose to allow for the ambient surroundings of the individual listener to take part in the song, an experience that will change every time you listen to it.’ Talking about playing the crowd.
Warn your neighbours and play it loud! Make sure to drop this one on your memory stick and use it in your set.
