Your music sounds like it was beamed in from another dimension. If you had to send one of your tracks as Earth’s official greeting to extraterrestrials, which one would it be?

I’ll take number 3 from Sightings’ tracklist: “I Don’t Even Know What It Is..”,  I feel it is the right one.
The frequency that the whole track is on, hits three key points:

  • First off, it’s the launch point, straight from my self-built spacecraft, stationed on my tiny planet somewhere in our solar system. It’s close to Earth, but no astronaut or scientist has ever managed to pinpoint the location.
  • Second, the journey itself: dodging meteorites is always a wild ride. It’s a challenge, sure, but the rush? It’d be adrenalinic and adventurous. Unmatched.
  • Finally, the landing. A bit rough as I lost all signals, the stratosphere fried some cables, and my onboard computer was busted. Right now, I’m fixing up my ship… I think I’m in Colorado.

Your sound is a mix of breakbeats, glitches, and deep, atmospheric textures. If you had to explain your music to a caveman using only grunts and gestures, how would you explain it?

Quite possibly, I’d start laughing my head off in front of the caveman…

If a documentary crew followed you around for a week, what’s the one weird habit or daily ritual they’d highlight in the final edit?

Once we land, I’d take them on a tour of my home planet, where nature isn’t just alive, it’s respected. There’s plenty of it too, untouched and thriving. And for the grand finale? A meditation session with the Greys, upon a peak where you can see Saturn in absolute silence, feeling the full weight of the universe.

The name Urei Lazar sounds like a lost scientist from a sci-fi novel or maybe a time traveller. How did you choose it?

Urei 1178 comes from Universal Audio, a legendary brand known for high-end compressors. Felt like the perfect name to take on. Lazar, though, that’s a nod to Bob Lazar, the nuclear physicist everyone tried to discredit. He was deep in the UFO scene, the first to spill the beans about Element 115, aka Moscovium, allegedly found at Site S-4 near Area 51, all under the watch of Edward Teller. Some call him a fraud, but I think there’s more to his story.

How did the EP Sightings come about? Talk us through the creative process behind it.

Easy, from my planetary travels, no doubt. That, and my gear works magic every single time. My crew is made up of synths: the Yamaha DX7, Poly-800, Akai S3000i, Korg Wavestation, MPC Renaissance, Yamaha PS-55, plus a Flanger Electronic Sounds and, of course, my trusty Urei 1178. Pure fun.

How would you describe your relationship with the label (Apparel Tronic)?

One of my favourite beings pulled me into it, and I was in from the jump. We took a trip to a nebula we both love, and he even flipped one of my tracks into a remix. Shoutout to Schilling, peace & space, brother. Then, another one of my favourite humans, Kisk,  helped us shape the whole thing with his knowledge. They understand my world.

Thank you.
