With releases across a host of well-respected and highly influential labels to date including the likes of Poker Flat Recordings, Gruuv, Bondage Music and Little Helpers, James Dexter has quickly emerged as one of the UK’s brightest talents with regular chart success across a number of leading music platforms – most notably Beatport where he has swiftly become one of the platforms best-selling artists within the Minimal / Deep Tech genre, picking up his first genre #1 in late 2018 with “Audio Slave” on Noexcuse Records in the process.

James Dexter’s productions and DJ sets are built from a well-rounded combination of groove driven, deep and immersive sounds.

Staying true to the sounds that have influenced his musical journey so far, James’ productions and DJ sets are built from a well-rounded combination of groove driven, deep and immersive sounds, finding support amongst some of the industry’s leading names whilst revealing a proven formula to keep dancefloors at the likes of fabric (London), Claire (Amsterdam) and Golden Gate (Berlin) moving until the early hours.

Inermu, for high quality refined yet dynamic productions

In 2015, James added another string to his bow as he founded his now-blossoming Inermu imprint, releasing music both digitally and via its vinyl only sub-series ‘Inermu Wax’. Now approaching its fourth year, having welcomed material from artists including Tuccillo, Mihai Popoviciu and Clive Henry, the label continues to be a favourite for those looking for high quality refined yet dynamic productions, whilst future label showcases across Europe and beyond look set to become firm fixtures in the diary.

Add to the mix his monthly Inermu showcase via his residency on Bloop London, now entering into its third year, plus future material and remixes set to drop via a host of top tier imprints, and it’s clear to see that there is plenty more on the horizon from the ever-impressing London native.

James Dexter talking

How are you doing? It came to our attention you are playing in Antwerp pretty soon. What can we expect?
I’m very well thank you and yes, I’ll be playing on Sunday 30th June at Regatta Club, for an event called Control. You can expect lots of deep underground house grooves.

What else have you got planned for the summer?
The summer is looking great, I’m just about to head off for my Australia tour, followed by Antwerp then I have some Label showcases for my label Inermu in various places, which I’m really excited about. Between the gigs, I’ll be locked away in the studio.

Moving into another direction. Tell us about your label, Inermu. Why did you decide to start your own label?
I started the label nearly 4 years ago now, it was predominantly created as an outlet for my own music and to gain some control over releasing music as much as and when I wanted. But since the launch I’ve also been fortunate enough to work with a number of great upcoming & established artists.

Inermu was created as an outlet for my own music and to gain some control over releasing music as much as and when I wanted.

What is your view on music releases when there is so much music being released on a daily basis?
There is a huge amount of music being released daily. Everyone does things differently though, some labels release every week, some every other month, I think the main thing to focus on is the quality and to make sure that it’s right, and then it shouldn’t matter how often you release.

Your next release will be on your own imprint – Tell us all about it. From idea to the creative process up until road testing the tracks.
Yes, so the next release I have coming out is a four-track EP called “Back Then”. Two of the tracks I made at the beginning of this year, these two are definitely on the deeper/dubbier side of things, whereas the other two tracks I made last year and I’d say they’re more deep house style. I’ve been playing all the tracks out the last few months and they’ve been working really well for me. The promo feedback I’ve had on the EP has also been great, so I’m keen to get this one out there.

What else can we expect this year, release-wise?
There’s lots to look out for this year, following my next EP on Inermu, I’ve remixed a track from Rich NXT coming on Avotre, an EP on Leftroom, a remix of a Mihai Popoviciu track on Cyclic, several Vinyl Releases to look out for also, including a special Vinyl Only release on Inermu Wax in October in time for the 4th Birthday.

TGMS: ow, lot’s of things coming!

We hope you’ll enjoy Antwerp, and we might see you at the show.
Thank you guys, I’m really looking forward to it, hope to see you there.
