Denis Ago is an artist whose sound we cannot help but love. A proponent of a really rough and ready vibe, he makes tunes for the dancefloor. And boy, do they work a treat whenever they’re unleashed out of the bag.
Though he’s repped a number of similarly-inclined labels, his latest record for the mighty Mother Recordings label might just be his best yet. A true ‘banger’ in every sense of the word, ‘Don’t Stop’ is a rambunctious-sounding jam that’s had us in a stir since we first heard it? But what rocks Denis’ world?
Well, we caught up with the man himself recently to find out, as he gave us the lowdown on his formal education in Milan, his time in music and his future plans.

How are you, what’s good and bad in your world?
Hello, it’s all good we finally came back to the party and be able to work in the clubs without problems, the fear of a new closure is always in the air but let’s be positioned well for that…
What was it like to get back to partying and DJing again after the pandemic?
Back in the clubs, it was great especially to meet so many clubbers and friends, but above all to be able to work again. We hope that it lasts. Fingers crossed of course!
Tell us about growing up and getting into dance music – why did you love it?
I became passionate about music when I was 13 years old. Back then I actually really liked the tribal sound. Over a short time, I naturally embraced techhouse which is the genre that I still love. My kinda sound!
What styles did you love at first, why did you want to DJ and produce?
One of the genres I started with was tribal house, a sound that I still listen to a lot. I became a DJ when I was given a small console with which I started to mix and immediately I became passionate about it and wanted to do it more. The world of production came much later when I felt the need to convey what I liked and above all create my own musical identity.
And what is your own sound, what makes your music unique?
I am a lover of percussion and very hard grooves, I really like to work with vocals and always look for a peculiarity in every song I produce.
Are you formally trained – how important is that to the sounds and style of music you make?
Until two years ago, I was totally self-taught. I moved to Milan and I started a Masters in Sound Engineer, which helped me a lot in the technical part of the productions, especially to play the songs just as I imagined them. It helped me a lot in being able to do a song from A to Z from production to Mix and Master completely independently.
How did you hook up with Mother and tell me about the EP?
Mother is a label I’ve been following for a long time, many artists I think have worked with her, at one point I felt ready to propose my music to her, and so I sent “Don’t Stop” and she immediately liked it.
What else have you got coming up/are you working on?
I have finished several works and given the period of covid I have many songs still in the cellar, I am waiting for a confirmation from other labels. I always hope for the best.
What hopes and dreams do you have for 2022?
Many dreams, we hope to continue to party in the clubs because it is the most important thing! For the productions we will see…we hope it will be a lucky year!
Thank you.
