The Brussels-based label Depth serves up a 10 track Various Artists best-of compilation that kicks off a new series called Cycle. It features core label associates such as Carlos Barbero, George Olmos, PALMFooD, Aaaron, Sifa, Migosy, Bayaka and many more and shows off their global house sound.
We had a chat with Sifa only recently to talk about his label and his influences. Check it out.
House music with an afro beat and real emotion
Carlos Barbero, George Olmos – Keita (Juan Remix) opens up with moody house that is coloured by great synth work and delicate percussion. PALMFooD – Mitende (D-Malice Expression) is then edgier and tech leaning, with chattery clasp and tense chords while Berlin-based Aaaron offers the taught synths and ethnic drums of his excellent Amaru.
This is a heavenly release with 10 fantastic tracks. Don’t miss it.
The second half draws label-head, Sifa’s snaking house groove Cobra, which has a fantastic chord sequence riding up and down the scale as cosmic pads flesh things out in heavenly and hypnotic ways. Migosy – Mbamba is more brilliant deep house lushness with an intimate feel and Nocturnal offers late-night vocal house grooves that are perfectly romantic. Muhu ups the ante and Beanfield and Thomas Herb close out in slick, stripped back deep house style.
