Alex Twin: Afro Tech Heat with a Timeless Twist

With a deep-rooted passion for Afro House and Afro Tech, Alex Twin has carved out a unique space in the global electronic music scene. Known for his organic, groove-infused productions and dynamic DJ sets, he blends tradition with innovation to create an immersive sonic experience. His latest release, a powerful reimagining of Nina Simone’s iconic “See Line Woman,” showcases his ability to bridge generations through sound. We caught up with Alex to dive into his musical journey, the inspirations behind his signature style, and the creative vision that continues to push his artistry forward.

You’ve built a strong reputation in the electronic music scene, particularly within Afro House and Afro Tech. What first inspired you to pursue music, and how did your journey begin?

My journey into the electronic music scene started 17 years ago when I began as a DJ. It was during these early days that I developed a profound love for music and the vibrant sounds of Afro House and Afro Tech. Around 10 years ago, I transitioned into music production, realizing that creating my own tracks was essential for establishing a unique sound and gaining international recognition. This combination of DJing and producing has allowed me to fully express my creativity and connect with audiences worldwide.

Your career has taken you to some of the most iconic venues and festivals around the world. How have these global experiences influenced your sound and artistic vision?

Traveling and performing at iconic venues and festivals worldwide has tremendously enriched my sound and artistic vision. Each location offers unique cultural influences and musical styles, which I’ve absorbed and integrated into my own music. Playing for diverse audiences has taught me to be adaptive, allowing me to experiment with different elements and rhythms while maintaining my core Afro House and Afro Tech aesthetic. These global experiences have shaped my music into a fusion of international sounds, making it resonate broadly while staying true to my roots.

You have a distinct way of blending deep, rhythmic grooves with organic elements in your productions. How would you describe your signature sound, and what draws you to these sonic textures?

My signature sound can be described as a harmonious blend of deep, rhythmic grooves intertwined with organic elements. I’m particularly drawn to these sonic textures because they bring a sense of familiarity and comfort to the listener. I’m always on the hunt for sounds that often go unnoticed in our daily lives—natural or ambient noises that, when incorporated into my music, evoke a connection with the audience. This approach creates a unique auditory experience that feels both innovative and relatable, grounding the listener in familiar sounds while taking them on a new musical journey.

“See Line Woman” is a timeless track with a powerful history. What made you decide to reimagine this song, and what was your creative vision for the remake?

I love to reimagine music that I was listening in my childhood. Bringing back to life such an iconic artist and allowing the new generation to listen to a “fresh” Nina Simone soundtrack in 2025 I think it’s a great achievement.

You worked alongside John Junior on this project. How did that collaboration come about, and what was the dynamic like in bringing this version to life?

The collaboration with John Junior came about quite naturally, as we’ve been friends and have shared a mutual admiration for each other’s work. John, who is a talented artist from Romania, initially reached out to me with the idea of working together on a project he was passionate about. We started exploring various possibilities, in the process, decided to focus our efforts on the Nina Simone project.

This track keeps the haunting essence of the original while infusing it with modern Afro House energy. How did you approach balancing respect for the original with innovation?

My approach to reimagining this piece was to thoughtfully balance innovation with homage. I aimed to honor the haunting essence of the original, infusing it with a refreshing modern Afro House energy. The challenge was to transform the vintage sound of the 60s while captivating the curious ears of a young audience in the 2000s. This reinterpretation seeks to bridge generations, breathing new life and energy into a classic, ensuring it resonates powerfully across eras.

Your last single, “You Can Get It,” was widely praised. How does “See Line Woman” build on your evolution as an artist, and where do you see your sound heading next?

Following the success of “You Can Get It,” this track demonstrates my ongoing shift towards a more house music-influenced sound, characterized by soulful tones and groovy basslines. I’ve been exploring a diverse array of instruments and styles, aiming to create a rich and vibrant auditory experience. As I look to the future, I envision my sound continuing to embrace these elements, with an emphasis on innovation and musical exploration that keeps my audience engaged and excited.

Your music is supported by major industry names like Black Coffee and Damian Lazarus. What does that kind of recognition mean to you, and how does it shape your career?

This kind of recognition not only boosts my confidence but also propels me to continue setting trends and pushing boundaries within the genre. It motivates me to keep evolving and to stay at the forefront of innovation in electronic music.

As an artist, what do you hope people feel when they listen to your music, whether in a club, at a festival, or on their own?

As an artist, my goal is to evoke a deep emotional connection through my music, no matter where it’s heard—whether in a club, at a festival, or in someone’s personal space. I hope listeners feel a range of emotions, from joy and excitement to introspection and calm. By reaching people emotionally, I aim to foster a strong, enduring bond between my art and the audience, making each experience memorable and meaningful.

Beyond this release, are there any upcoming projects, collaborations, or performances that fans should be excited about?

Yes, I’m excited to share that I’m currently working on my debut album, which will feature around 12 songs. It’s a project that’s been in the making for some time, and I’m thrilled to finally bring it to life. The album should be ready by the end of the year, and I can’t wait for my fans to hear it. In addition to the album, there are a few collaborations and performances in the pipeline that I’m looking forward to announcing soon. Stay tuned for more details!
