What inspired the creation of EDITION JAW, and how does it differ from other labels in the electronic music space?
EDITION JAW was created by Stefan Muchte & Ryan Nasty from a deep love for music that goes beyond trends and genres. We wanted to build a label that gives artists room to express themselves fully, musically and visually. Coming from the scenes in Berlin and Cologne, we noticed a need for a platform that values authenticity, emotion, and groove – over hype.
What makes us different? We don’t follow formulas. We follow feelings and are open-minded to everyone who is doing amazing music.
You describe the label’s sound as sitting between groovy techno and indie dance. How would you define that sweet spot in your own words?
It’s that perfect middle ground where the beat keeps you moving, but the melodies make you feel something. A bit dirty, a bit elegant. We love hypnotic grooves, driving rhythms, and emotional layers. Something you can lose yourself in on the dancefloor, but also enjoy with headphones late at night. It’s club music with character and soul.
EDITION JAW aims to support artists who don’t fit the traditional club scene mold—what kinds of artists are you hoping to attract?
We’re drawn to artists who think outside the box. People who tell stories with their sound, who bring a personal touch to their productions, and who aren’t afraid to take risks. Whether they’re newcomers or seasoned producers, what matters most to us is their perspective and the emotional impact of their work.
There’s mention of “dirty elegance” and “punchy grooves” – can you tell us about the emotional or physical response you hope listeners will have when experiencing your releases?
We want our tracks to hit both the body and the mind. The goal is to make people move, of course, but also to create moments of intensity, introspection, and connection. Whether it’s through a gritty synth, a surprising vocal sample, or a perfectly timed drop, we want listeners to feel something. It’s not about perfection – it’s about energy and emotion.
What challenges do you see in carving out space for more diversity and fresh perspectives in the electronic underground—and how will EDITION JAW tackle them?
One of the biggest challenges is making space for artists and ideas that don’t fit the mainstream narrative. We believe the underground should always evolve, and that means supporting fresh perspectives and different stories. We approach this by staying open, curious, and by working with people who bring something unique to the table – musically, visually, and culturally.
Storytelling seems to be a big part of your philosophy. How do you translate stories into sound, or choose artists who do?
For us, storytelling means that every track, every release, has its own world. We’re attracted to music that has depth, whether it’s subtle or bold. We also pay close attention to artwork and visual language, as it’s an extension of the sound. Our covers are carefully curated to reflect the mood and message of the music – often playful, sometimes edgy, always meaningful.
Are there any upcoming releases or artists you’re particularly excited about that exemplify the EDITION JAW spirit?
Definitely! We’ve got some really exciting releases lined up that capture the essence of EDITION JAW – deep grooves, indie dance energy, and an emotional core. We’re also working on a few collaborative projects that bring together different influences from the main label Jannowitz Records and cities, and we’re constantly on the lookout for new voices that surprise us. And we invited to spoil a few names: Bonnie Spacey, Max Freeze, Rendelman, Ryan Nasty, Valmaiin, Case Chamber & more.
Where do you hope to see EDITION JAW in the next few years – sonically, culturally, or even globally?
We’d love to continue growing our community, connecting with listeners, dancers, and artists around the world. Musically, we’ll keep exploring that space between genres and moods. Culturally, we hope to inspire people to stay true to themselves and to create art that reflects who they are. We’re not trying to be the biggest, but we do want to be meaningful.
Thank you
