Ahead of the Exit Festival, we share 5 tracks of the master’s collection
Exit Festival is one of the most essential dance music festivals in the world, and this year once again the big dogs are all lining up. It, of course, takes place in the famous Serbia Fort and this year the likes of Peggy Gou, Charlotte De Witte, Paul Kalkbrenner, Amelie Lens and many more all line up this July.
One of them is Eric Estornel aka Maceo Plex, the Cuban-American DJ known for his big room techno sounds, often with a cosmic edge. He runs his own Mosaic label and party and here, ahead of his much-anticipated set at EXIT, we look at five of his best tunes from all his various different aliases. What a collection of absolute top class tunes!
Maceo Plex plays EXIT Festival Serbia this summer, running from the 4th – 8th July
Maceo Plex – Falling
One of the artist’s biggest tunes this one combines funky disco loops, house drums and sci-fi synths to summery and anthemic effect, especially with the filter Daft Punk style vocal.
Maceo Plex – Kepler’s Journey
A cosmic trip that was part of an album dedicated to his son, this one is epic in every way. And as its title suggests, it serves up a serious journey.
Mariel Ito – Lovely
An always adventurous producer, this one came on Belgium’s much-loved and respected R&S and featured spaced out breakbeats, old school rave vibes and a subtle sense of rising euphoria that always does damage in the club. It was the sound of Plex going back to his roots.
Maceo Plex – Love Somebody Else
This is a gorgeous vocal cut that goes super deep but exudes real vocal soul. It’s a timeless track in that was huge in Ibiza and still does the business seven years on, with the vocal contribution of Joi Cardweel never failing to get bodies moving in unison on the dancefloor.
Maetrik – The Reason
A cold mechanical cut with raw industrial synths that is all about curing out the groove and making you march. If ever there was a track that perfectly encapsulates the diversity of one of house and techno’s most passionately eclectic producers, this one is surely it. Seeing the light of day on Sven Vath’s still-nagging Cocoon label, it’s safe to say that when a track gets the seal of approval from the Papa, that it’s bound to bang. And that’s most definitely the case here! “You’re the reason I can’t leave, you’re the reason I can’t looooove!”
